Camp Karabin

Quarterly Giving at Atticus

2024 has brought big changes for our little shop! In May of this year, my husband and I purchased Atticus from the Ferrells after 2 years of working and learning alongside them.

One of the things that initially drew me to shop, and then work, at Atticus was their founding principle of giving back to individuals and organizations that do GOOD.

Rest assured that we are maintaining that commitment! We support local fundraisers throughout the year, and aim to make more substantial donations quarterly.

We are excited to draw your attention to this quarter's donation recipient, provide a little background on why we chose them, and let you know how you might get involved as well!

Who

Our August 2024 donation recipient is Camp Karabin in Ukraine! From the Camp Karabin parent organization, Our Legacy:

Every day a lot of children suffer in crisis situations.

60% of families in Ukraine are single parent.

90% of families in Ukraine do not consider themselves happy.

12% of children have thought about suicide.

All this comes from many factors, and indicates only a part of the problem.

Life circumstances such as fatherlessness, war, economic difficulties, health problems, unemployment, and bad habits of parents deprive children of normal growth and development.

As a result, children suffer and grow up wounded, with many disabilities and with no real life guidelines. They take a path destroying their own potential and become adults leading a lifestyle that harms them and sometimes harms the society around them.

This cycle must be broken.

We do not want to respond only to the problem. Instead, we seek to change everything from the very beginning and show them another way!

Karabin is a team of experts who are united with love of children and desire to make them happy.

Why Camp Karabin?

We were introduced to the work that Camp Karabin does through Pineywoods Baptist Camp in Woodlake, Texas, where my Dad has been the Manager since 1990!

My Dad, Eric, has recently finished up his last summer at Pineywoods before retiring and I wanted to help support the camp that Pineywoods has helped support these years.

I am a Camp Kid through and through (I mean that very literally. My childhood home is now the office at Pineywoods) and I strongly believe in the positive impact that camp can have on the lives of children and youth here and abroad.

How can you help?

Every year Camp Karabin is looking for new volunteers to form a Staff Team with a big loving heart for mentoring.

The Staff Team is the engine for all camps, trips, and other Karabin events. They are confident but humble, and they want to learn as well as mentor. They want to use their talents to provide life-giving excitement to campers and show them the priceless experience of team cooperation.
